How do we know about things(like a solar eclipse) through social network?

multi-take cut:An narrative technique in which the solar eclipse is described form 100 different perspectives all around the solar eclipse, then edited together amongst all the different perspectives
Publication 1: solar eclipse & multi-take cut
Publication 2: solar eclipse & social media
The endless stream of information in mass media and our limited time results in information producers extracting the key highlights from complete events and using sensational headlines to capture this limited attention. Different information producers extract different highlights, and we stitch these together through multi-take cuts to form our understanding of events.
Just like the process of a solar eclipse, after we flip through this book, we did not see the eclipse itself. We only see the phenomenon of the eclipse pieced together from others’ perspectives through phone lenses and screens. This is how “fragmented output” and “patchwork input” generates a “misunderstood understanding.” These three terms summarize the characteristics of the information we receive through social networks.
‘fragmented output’: People observing the solar eclipse from various locations take out their phones to record a few seconds of fragments and upload them to social media.
‘patchwork input’: We see these fragments and piece them together in our minds (or complete a multi-take cut in our minds).
‘misunderstood understanding’: What we piece together is not a complete process of the solar eclipse but an ambiguous solar eclipse phenomenon.
“The mechanical clock changed the way we saw ourselves. And like the map, it changed the way we thought”Once the clock had redefined time as a series of units of equal duration, our minds began to stress the methodical mental work of division and measurement.”
How does social network change our way of thinking?
“This is how programmers these days loosely glue everything together with code. Connect persons to data objects to persons. That’s the social today.”

publication 3: solar eclipse & digitisation
solar eclipse by the moon: A solar eclipse occurs because part of the sunlight is blocked by the moon. If you are in the shadow of the moon, then you can see the eclipse.
solar eclipse by mobile phone: A solar eclipse occurs because part of the sunlight is blocked by mobile phone. If you are in the shadow of mobile phone, then you can see the eclipse.
reality eclipse by digitization: A reality eclipse occurs because part of the reality is blocked by digitization. If you are in the shadow of digitization, then you can see the eclipse.
“The designers appropriated highly socially valued convention of triendship and transtormed it into a database operation. The practices and the meanings of friendship were translated into the technical event of creating Friends.”
reality eclipse by digitization: A reality eclipse occurs because part of the interpersonal relationship is blocked by digitised interpersonal relationship, If you are in the shadow of digitization, then you can see the eclipse.
“Live coverage of such events tends to create a sense hat the world is sharing the sarne time: a global present”
reality eclipse by digitization: A reality eclipse occurs because part of the time and space is blocked by digitised time and space. If you are in the shadow of digitization, then you can see the eclipse.
